Renewable Energy to triple by 2030 in over 110 countries

More than 110 countries pledged to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030 and double annual energy efficiency improvements

During the third day of the COP28 summit in Dubai, leaders from more than 110 nations committed to a collective effort to triple global sustainable energy capacity by 2030.

Additionally, they pledged to double the annual rate of energy efficiency improvements.

Rana Adib, REN21 Executive Director said: “This pledge sends a positive signal from this COP, which is the first to bring this much attention to renewable energy and energy efficiency.

“But the renewable energy community will only call this global target a historic win when it makes its way into the COP 28 outcome, along with a comprehensive and equitable sustainable energy package.”

“The just transition to renewable energy worldwide requires adequate finance, skilling and reskilling and infrastructure, which must be included in this COP package.”

Each country’s pledge varies in terms of the specific renewable energy sources they aim to prioritize, whether it’s solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, or a combination of these.

Many nations have set ambitious targets to generate a significant portion of their electricity from renewable sources within the next decade.

These pledges often come with challenges related to infrastructure development, technological advancements, policy frameworks, and financial investments.

Collaboration between governments, industries, and communities is essential to successfully transitioning to renewable energy sources while ensuring energy security and affordability for all.

The widespread commitment to sustainable energy by 2030 signifies a potential shift towards a more sustainable future.

Achieving this goal could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate climate change impacts, and foster global energy security.

It may also spur technological innovation, economic growth, and create a more resilient and cleaner energy landscape worldwide.
