SCOTTISH ENGINEERS BOOST TURBINE EFFICIENCY

New software enhances wind turbine performance and energy output—no blade redesign required.

A pair of engineers from Scotland have discovered a way to enhance turbine efficiency without the need for redesigning them.

Reoptimize Systems’ software improves turbine performance by an average of 2.3%, increasing energy production without requiring any hardware modifications.

With over 400,000 turbines in operation worldwide, Reoptimize Systems estimates a potential recurring revenue opportunity of £1.5 billion from optimising turbine efficiency.

By remotely fine-tuning turbine power curves, the technology reduces downtime, minimises mechanical stress, and extends operational lifespan—all without the need for on-site intervention.

While modern turbines are designed to convert 42% of wind energy into electricity, actual conversion rates fall below 35%. Reoptimize Systems’ technology helps close this gap.

Board Chair Dr Mike Anderson said: “Our technology enhances turbine efficiency, playing a vital role in the transition to renewable energy. The potential for global impact is enormous, making this an exciting opportunity for both the industry and investors.”

With six pilot projects successfully operating across five countries, the technology is well-positioned to help wind farm owners maximise profitability while advancing net zero targets.
